Our Story – Inspired by Ancient Discoveries
The inspiration behind Kraken Cellar’s unique winemaking process came from ancient tales of shipwrecks containing perfectly preserved wines. Intrigued by the possibility of enhancing the aging process using the sea’s natural elements, we embarked on our journey in 2017. After extensive research and experimentation, we discovered that aging wines at the bottom of the sea not only accelerated the maturation process but also imbued the wines with refined characteristics and distinct nuances.
The Kraken Cellar Method
Our commitment to producing exceptional wines starts with selecting the finest grape varieties from the best vineyards in Montenegro. Once we have carefully chosen the wines suitable for underwater aging, we prepare them for their oceanic journey.
Each bottle is meticulously sealed with wax to ensure a watertight closure, preventing any seawater from affecting the wine. The bottles are then placed in specially designed metal cages, positioned upside down to keep the corks moist and minimize the risk of contamination. Submerged at a depth of 20 to 25 meters, the wines begin their transformative voyage through the depths of the sea.
Over the course of one year, the wines interact with the sea’s environment, experiencing the constant pressure, gentle movements, and cool darkness. This process enriches the wines, resulting in remarkable improvements in taste, aroma, and texture. After this submerged aging, the wines emerge from the depths as truly unique and extraordinary creations.
