Morinj is located on the main road to Herceg Novi, 8 km from Risan. This town has developed into one of the biggest fishing villages on the west coast of the Boka Bay. This is an old settlement of seafarers, whose residents took part in many sea battles. They were also involved in finding new trading routes, and they managed to open a school in Morinj which was in their national language, in 1803. In 1843 Morinj also opened a library. A Morinj family that was especially known for its skill and sea battle accomplishments was the Milinovic family. Captain Tomo Djurov Milinovic (1770-1846) was famous for his affairs, because he was a cannon-smelter and a leader in the Serbian uprising under Karadjordje.
What also makes this place attractive for tourists is the event known as “ The Morinj Wedding”.
